For some reason people sometimes ask me what might be a good Christmas gift for a teenager, like I would know. Our teens are easy. Get the latest video game or Anime video (in Japanese, English dubbing just won’t do!)
As to what other people should get for their kids? Who have interests in theings other than video games? There are a million Christmas gift ideas out there, and no two teenagers are alike, even if they do all tend to dress as if they are.

Ideal Christmas gifts for teens, like teenagers themselves, change. Sometimes it seems they change minute by minute. So you should really talk to your own kid about what they might want for the holiday. While some teens will just give you the death gaze whenever you open your mouth, most of them are pretty forthcoming about possible gifts.

Of course, you might not be able to talk about your Christmas gift for a teenager if your point is to simply surprise them when the holiday comes. This can be a whole lot of fun, and I must recommend it. If you can catch a teen off guard with something that they have always wanted, but not gotten around to asking for, it can be such a festive occasion.

Of course, what is the perfect surprise Christmas gift for a teenager is anyones guess. For a lot of girls, a nice piece of jewelry that they have never seen before might just be the perfect teenage Christmas gift.

For boys, by contrast, they might want a new gadget or gizmo, such as an mp3 player, or a radar detector for their car. Heck, you might even get him a cell phone (and if you do that you might have to get one for her.) Fortunately you can get pretty slick phones for free.

If they just have to have whatever the next hot thing is then you might want to keep an eye on the hot seller lists at all of the big online stores.
I still think that you will have to sound your kid out to figure out the right gift. It’s not like there is some magic formula. We’d all love to be able to type in , “Find me the perfect Christmas gift for my teenager.” If your kids’ friends won’t blab maybe you can ask them.
The important thing with a Christmas gift for a teen is the same as what is important for any Christmas gift. It has to be from the heart. If you take the time to find something that you think your teen will want, they will appreciate it, and it will probably be a whole lot more useful and in much better taste than anything that they would have gotten for themselves.

The fact is that, as long as your Christmas gift for a teenager is from you, they will like it, because what are the holidays for, after all, but spending time with the family and friends. Just don’t get them silly things, like underwear.

What about the Most Popular Christmas Gifts?

When it comes to Christmas gifts, many parents have no idea what the most popular Christmas gifts are for that year. The kids know, and may be wishing for something special, but many times parents are completely knocked for a loop when it comes time to shop.

If it turns out the gift your daughter has been dreaming of is a popular one, it may be hard to find, and if you’re clueless and get the wrong thing…

If you are looking around December 24th, which i tend to do, you may not find it at all.  When this happens, parents panic. That one special gift is important, and if you can’t find it, you feel like you may have let your child down. Or, if you’re like some people, you get her something else and justify it to yourself.

Understandably, many parents try to keep away from the commercialism of Christmas, and try to teach their children there is more to this holiday than getting the most popular Christmas gifts under the tree in the morning. Good luck. The more your kids watch TV and hang out at the mall the less likely they are to accept that logic.
Decommercializing Christmas is wonderful, but it doesn’t mean you can’t find a few special things that they have been wishing for. No matter what your religious convictions are, getting that special present is still part of the magic of Christmas.

When your child has their heart set on a gift that just happens to be one of the most popular Christmas gifts available that year, you may have to search high and low to find it. This can be spending hours on the phone trying to find a store that has it, and then racing there in hopes that it is still on the shelf. There hasn’t been a huge shortage since the Tickle Me Elmo days, but popular toys are still on short demand on occasion.

Long before December 24th, find out what you kids are wishing for, and find out if you can find the one gift they want the most. It may be one of that years most popular Christmas gifts and you don’t want to be left empty handed.

If you can’t find the item in the stores, order it online. Amazon.com has a huge selection of toys and gifts. If the toy is extremely popular you may have to go to eBay to find it, and you may find yourself paying double for the toy. You may be able to back order the toy from another website, but in that case, your child may have to wait until after Christmas to get it.

The most popular Christmas gifts may not be the ones you see on a popular toys list online or in the paper. What ends up being your child’s favorite gift might be something unique that no one around them has. You can find many unique and novelty gifts at specialty stores and on the Internet. It is nice when you can find the perfect gift for your child without spending days on end searching for it.

For web savvy kids this might make a great gift. It’ll be a perfect match for their MySpace sites.

One day I was shopping for myself and came across a special gift for my sister. She is allergic to metal so is very limited in what jewelry she can wear. I found a bracelet that was made of glass beads. It was two strands wide and was stretchy, so there was no metal clasp. I knew this bracelet would make a great gift for my sister because the colors complimented several of her outfits.

During another shopping trip I found a special gift for my godchild. She has always liked things in a heart shape. I found glass shaped hearts in a variety of colors and sizes. The store also had a clear glass heart shaped bowl. I purchased several of the hearts and the bowl. This will be a great house warming present.

I realized that I had better luck finding a special gifts when I wasn’t looking for them. I decided that when ever I am out shopping I am going to look at items that would make a nice present.

By doing this the shopping is much more relaxed. It is also a good way of saving money because when you shop year round for a gifts you can often times buy things that are on sale. Even if the item is not on sale, by buying things through the year I do not have such a huge bill around the holiday time.

If you are going to try this I will make a couple of suggestions to make purchasing gifts ahead of time easier. One thing is to make a list of the people that you ordinarily buy for.

The list should be small enough to carry in your wallet, so that you always have it with you. That way when you find a special gift for someone on your list you can cross their name off. At the holiday or birthday time you can then check how many gifts you still need to purchase.

Another tip to help with buying gifts early is to place all of your purchases in a central location. This way you will know where to find the present at the time you need it. I ended up buying more than one special gift for the same person because I could not remember where I stored the first one.

Another cool gift for the animal lovers is to donate to something like praire wildlife research. I got that idea from tingilinde.

If you are organized in the way you make your purchases you can save money and time by shopping for presents throughout the year. This will help the holiday season seem more pleasant, and gift giving more fun.

Photojojo has a nifty gift for mother’s day which would work just fine for any other day, too.
